The Elements of Regulation: A Somatic Experiential Skills Course

Most of us were never taught what to do with our feelings. We learned to think our way through them, push past them, or wait for them to go away. Yet the body has its own intelligence for processing emotion, a natural capacity that, when we learn to work with it, can help us feel steadier, more present, and more connected to ourselves and to each other.

This November, I’m offering a two-day experiential workshop at Snowgrass Lodge in Leavenworth to explore that capacity together.

What you’ll learn

The Elements of Regulation blends the tools of somatic psychotherapy with music, movement, and art. Rather than just talking about regulation, we’ll practice it. Over the weekend you’ll learn:

  • How the nervous system creates emotion. What’s happening in your body when a feeling arises, and why emotions move the way they do.
  • How to track what you feel. Simple, practical skills for noticing sensation and emotion as they unfold, so you can respond rather than react.
  • How to work with your body’s natural processing. Ways to support the nervous system’s built-in capacity to move through emotion and return to balance.
  • How to stay present with others. Practices for co-regulation, building self-trust, and staying grounded in connection, not just on your own.

Why somatic skills matter

Somatic skills are foundational. They don’t replace the practices you already love; they deepen them. Learning to track and regulate your nervous system can enrich your experience of yoga, meditation, therapy, bodywork, dance, and other body-based or contemplative practices, including the integration of expanded-state experiences. When you understand what your body is doing, you can meet each of these practices with more presence, safety, and choice.

These skills also help in daily life: in a hard conversation, at the end of a draining workday, or anywhere burnout and overwhelm tend to show up.

Learning through music, movement, and art

Something different happens when we learn together through creative expression. Music, movement, and art create a meaningful container for this work. They invite co-regulation, a sense of belonging, and the kind of embodied learning that stays with you long after the weekend ends.

I’m joined by musical friends Herman Savastano, Benjamin Jay Thomas, Alicia Mckee, and Nora Heath, who will help make this a truly special, revelatory learning journey.

Who it’s for

You! If you have a body and want to learn to process your feelings more effectively, reduce burnout, and feel more present, this workshop is for you. No prior experience with somatic work, music, or movement is needed. Come as you are.
